- Each shot runs on length according to the beat and tempo of the music
- Different shots will give different effects, the faster the beat the shorter the shots will be.

- Mutliplicity of incomplete sometimes obscure paths.
Hollywood film- single clear path through the films world
- Order of shots, unconventional. Shifts more freely between shots. No typical shot order
Hollywood film- Order of shots- conventional. Typical shot order, E.g film opening- establishing shot, two shots, medium shots, close ups.
- Time space, character and narrative are revealed incompletely.

- Discontinuity- Pop videos draw us away from the narrative by foregrounding other structures and elements E.g music, stars, lyrics and genre
Hollywood film- Continuity- film draws us into the narrative
Visual hooks create continuity. Non continuous shots linked by a single feature - unified by figure, shape, colour and setting- Sometimes all elements ( Colour, editing, star etc) are equal, sometimes one is dominant and others subordinate.
