Assessment 29/06/11 SJA

WWW
  • Blog looking good so far.
  • Your work on the 'In The Sun' lip synch was good for a first attempt. Good to see some different shot types / framing happening.
  • Your own lip synch task was en excellent effort Dan - well done on this. I can see you invested loads of time on this, and I like the range of shot types / framing and the mise en scene. I though your idea was creative and you delivered a good performance. Your own comments on WWW/EBI on this are accurate. You know exactly what you need to focus on next time.
EBI
You need to make the post on 'What makes a good music video' visual - use screen grabs from a range of music vids you like to show examples of various settings / shot types / techniques that work. I suggest that you come back to this post to really develop in more detail. Use our help sheet to help you.
Your 'In The Sun' lip synch could have have more shots and more speedy rotation of shots to avoid viewer fatigue.
Your effort on your own lip synch was fantastic, I think you know to work on matching up sound to visuals when editing next time.

Effort - VG on blog so far - (and EX on own lip synch task)

My 'In the sun' Lip Sync Preliminary Task

My group consisted of me Daryl and Luke. We filmed it in a normal classroom and displayed the lyrics on the board so it was easier to read. We kept the camera on the table on the tripod and left it on record whilst filming our shots. Our shots were mainly simple and was positioned in the same place mainly throughout however became more creative at the end. We all felt comortable singing in front of eachother and managed to film it quite quickly. Our editing however was a bit harder as we didnt film each person singing the whole song through, instead doing bit by bit with different people which made the editing a bit more harder. Overall i believe it was a good effort for our first time and i believe i have learnt a lot more than a did before and can learn by the mistakes made a make an even better film

WWW-
  1. The lip syncing was good
  2. We all felt comfortable and did a bit of dancing and acting
  3. we learnt new skills and managed to finish it quick
EBI-
  1. If we had some more interesting shot types
  2. Perhaps if we acted a bit more
  3. Make it more exciting as we would of probably bored the audience
  4. Film each person one by one so the editing would be easier

What makes a good music video ?

I believe that a good music video must consist of great camera shots, quick shots, good acting, enjoyable stroyline and most of all needs to keep viewers entertained, not only with the lyircs but also the video itself. The video must relate itself to the lyrics and if it doesnt, then the viewers are more likely to get bored and not watch it. A music video that has good actors or good acting skills are more likely to promote the film as it is more enjoyable for the viewers to see.

This video has countless amounts of shots and uses different angles and has very quick shots lasting no more than 4 seconds. The video is colourful and very upbeat which is a positive as the viewers are wanting to watch more without creating viewer fatigue.

This video uses good shots of location and the artist is normally positioned either to the right or left of the screen making the location more visible. Also a lot of high angle and low angle shots are used as you can see.

This music video starts of with the location shot being one of its first. Each shot is quick and upbeat as it is an upbeat song. Many shots include High angle shots, Low angle shots, panning shots and tracking shots. These type of shots keep viewers entertained and reduces viewer fatigue.

My own Lip-Syncing Task

This is my own Lip Syncing task to the song 'It wasnt me' by Shaggy. This video inspired me because it had loads of potential for great shots and had loads of unusual shots. It took me about 3 hours to film in total, re-shooting shots to get the best one and finally putting it together. I watched the real video numerous amount of times and thought of how to re inact the shots. A few of my shots may be a bit shaky and unproffessional as i didnt have a tripod and was filmed with the camera being handheld

WWW-
  1. I used plenty of interesting shots
  2. I tried to make the shots quick and snappy
  3. I had a good storyline to it
EBI-
  1. If I made the lip syncing more in time
  2. If i borrow a tripod next time to make some shots more steady
  3. If my lip syncing was a bit more visual
